Give Kids the World- Fundraiser [01 Oct 2009|08:58pm]
GKTW is one of central Florida's best kept secrets. The 70-acre Village partners with wish granting foundations to offer children with life-threatening illnesses, (and their families), an all-expenses paid week in Orlando with visits to the area's theme parks.

GKTW currently has 138 villas and has hosted over 90,000 wish children. Please consider sponsoring me in their annual 5K. I have reached my goal once, but raised it because an organization as inspirational as GKTW can never have enough funding.

I know that times are tough. . but if every person would consider donating just $1.00, it would help to make a world of a difference!!

My website is www.firstgiving.com/jessicavogel

If you live in the area or will be in the area November 7th, please consider joining me for the run!!

Dear Livejournal [22 Jul 2009|10:37pm]
It's been a long time. I am considering twitter. . and somehow that made me think of visiting you. .

Many other people seem to have stopped updating as well. I read about some interesting diy craft projects and see that Marc is still 'keeping it real' on this beast, although his photos don't work (test to see if you will see this post. . or if you're friend's page is still impossible to keep up with like the good ol' LJ days!).

Life is flipping fantastic! I recently turned 24 and compiled a list of things to accomplish this year. (ie. run my first 1/2 marathon, learn more about gardening, start a screen printing semi-business, begin writing a book with intentions to actually have it published one day, send my genius invention (ahem pantyhose currently suck) idea to Ellen and Oprah, register on the national bone marrow donor registry, other things I don't feel like listing anymore, etc. =)

I haven't seen H.P. yet and that needs to be fixed. Otherwise, the bday was so wonderful!! Cousins visited from Maryland, I have recently learned to wake board (first try. . whhhhatt? yes. mad leg muscle bamboozie.) and have been spending time at the beach, I will be in Iowa soon, my dreamboat and his fam are incredible, I am excelling at work (training and gaining responsibility to the flipping MAX that I can't even describe for the past couple of months and should soon reap rewards of a kickbutt raise come August- thanks for taking that step back to take two ahead Jvo), new books, hobbies, and again . . etc.

Oh btw, the 4th was tremendous as well.

Let's see if I remember how to post pics now. . and p.s. I am currently 18.8 "real age" (find your real age at realage.com) but could even lower that with owning a pup. . and I know I want a pup. . but the $500 pet fee is not down with me. Nor, am I, with it. But, (!!) once I own a home. . I can't wait to rescue a pup!!

*apparently I can't do my pics yet. . soon!!

A little frightening. . [06 Jun 2007|06:26pm]
I just heard on NBC news that a women in Labelle has been discovered with Tuberculosis and is in quarantine. I didn't hear them answer the million dollar question on air: Is it active or latent tuberculosis?

Active tuberculosis can be spread when the infected person coughs or sneezes. TB is then spread through the air.

It's a simple process to determine if someone is infected with TB. If the TB is latent it may be treated so that it does not turn into active TB.

I called the newsroom studio and "we heard it was active".

Holy flipping buckets. I wonder how many of us will begin to wear masks?

It's a smile! It's a kiss! It's a sip of wine! It's the summertime!!!

Heck yeah. My mom and I will win.

Now!! Interesting facts for your knowledge:

Back in the day medicine was based pretty much entirely on what Hippocrates, Aristotle, and Galen (Greeks) thought. Following are some very neat ideas they had in reference to explaining our anatomy.

1. The brain- thought to act as a gland that made phlegm, discharged via the nose.

2. Ears- thought to contain human will and also to be involved in respiration.

3. Heart- blood was believed to pass from one side to the other through tiny holes in a central dividing wall. (don't we wish things were so simple?)

4. Teeth- it was believed that women had less than men.

5. Lungs- blood was thought to be pumped to the lungs where it evaporated and was BREATHED OUT in exhaled air!! (holy cow, probably the most fascinating to me)

6. Arteries- believed to be full of air. Probably because when you open a corpses arteries they appear to be empty.

7. Embryo (also very amusing)- believed to arise from the mixing of seminal fluid and menstrual blood.

8. Bile- if your bile was yellow, you were "quick-tempered" and if your bile was black, you were "naturally sad".

Well I hope you learned something. I should retire to bed early seeing as I finally have a day off of work tomorrow and my body would love the rest!! However, this is precisely the reason I am still awake!! Woot!

Peace homeslices.

"Forget any and all college affiliations today. For today, we are all Hokies." [17 Apr 2007|09:38pm]
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

not gonna lie [31 Mar 2007|11:33pm]
i still love:
Keith Sweat-twisted & nice and slow
Blackstreet-no diggity
Blacklacious-alphabet aerobics
Red Hot Chilli Peppers-under the bridge
and. . . whoever the flip sang let my clear my throat.

I love nostalgia.

I love seeing Ozma at my school. For free. Even it was only 4 songs. Because we convinced them they had better "play something because they have real fans here".

Oh life, how much I love you.

And how much I try (so hard) not to take you for granted because I know I have so many lovely things that many others do not experience. I'm sure that I miss out on many things every day as well. But ya know what, I don't really give a flip. I've been dealt a beautiful hand of non-matching cards and I have a winning hand that no casino could ever even begin to negotiate.

silly advisors [29 Mar 2007|06:05pm]
[ mood | frustrated ]

I am so frustrated. For some reason lately I've been thinking of changing my major from Finance to Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. (That's a long word.) Not being able to decide which path to take but knowing that I needed to register for fall classes, I went ahead and made up a hypothetical schedule so that I could meet with my adviser. After waiting for an hour I was very excited to hear them call my name. Now I know that I would have been better running off in the other direction instead of frolicking into the office. Well not really because I've never been one to believe ignorance is bliss, but my current mood wouldn't look so slanted.

"It was still unclear how salmonella, which commonly originates from the feces of birds and animals, got into the peanut butter.

Government and industry officials said the contamination may have been caused by dirty jars or equipment. Peanuts are usually heated to high, germ-killing temperatures during the manufacturing process. The only known salmonella outbreak in peanut butter - in Australia during the mid-1990s - was blamed on unsanitary plant conditions."

I've eaten a jar and a half!! *Counting my lucky stars my immune system is a beast!*
. . or maybe my 2111's weren't infected. . I'm sure not all contained it. . but it's more fun to pretend I have superpowers.
I hope peter pan doesn't go under.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend in this beautiful weather!! I was stuck in my fishbowl today but tomorrow baby you better believe I'm gone' fishin'!!

Hello!! [12 Feb 2007|08:32pm]
Antique roadshow is so cool!! Wouldn't it be neat to own an antique shop in a quaint beach town?

One woman just presented a book given to her mother directly from Helen Keller. The inscription was slanted as she used a guide to write it. Fascinating! My favorite piece this episode has been a portrait from 1789. It was done with such sensitivity. .
(Looking for the image online. .)
I didn't find it! But I found this ""George Washington: The First Presidential Portrait" (January 2001), a 2-inch portrait miniature of George Washington completed in 1789 that set a world record for any portrait miniature at auction when it sold for $1.1 million.

Time to read The Machine That Changed The World. The book seems decent. .I'm going to pretend it's not a school-read and hopefully I'll enjoy it!

Orlando this weekend and Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!! <3
